Uddan

Fixed-wing VTOL survey aircraft. Uddan means “flight”.

A twin-boom survey aircraft that takes off vertically, cruises on a pusher and maps from a belly camera.

Uddan is a twin-boom, high-wing survey aircraft that lifts off vertically on four fixed rotors, cruises on a single pusher and lands on the same patch of ground. It maps corridors and large areas from a nadir camera in one belly cassette, and needs no launcher, catcher or tilt mechanism.

Where it fits.

  • Corridor mapping: roads, pipelines, power lines, canals and railway alignments.
  • Large-area survey: agricultural boundaries, mining and construction progress, land records.
  • Sustained hover and close inspection stay with the Shadanga hexacopter.

Works with.

  • Payload: a cassette bay with a keyed power and data connector, for a nadir RGB or multispectral camera.
  • Ground: the Kendra ground station for planning, monitoring and PPK log download.
  • Power: a single pack through the dorsal hatch, charged off the aircraft.

Key features.

  • Four fixed lift rotors and one pusher

One rotor ahead and one behind the wing on each boom, plus a centreline rear pusher. Lift and cruise are separate, with no hinges.

  • Continuous twin booms

The booms run from the forward motors, through reinforced wing nodes, to a twin-fin tail with a bridging horizontal tailplane.

  • Belly payload cassette

Sits close to the wing with a flush downward camera window and a finger latch. RGB mapping camera as standard, multispectral cassette as an option.

  • Dorsal battery hatch

Opens ahead of the wing carry-through with the wing fitted. The battery tray slides fore and aft, locking positively, to rebalance after a payload change.

  • Removable outer wing panels

The panels detach outside the boom nodes, so the aircraft travels in a single case.

  • Two carbon landing skids

Mounted on body hard points, keeping the sensor window and pusher clear of the ground.

All figures are indicative targets, subject to aerodynamic and structural validation and to QCI/DGCA type certification under the Drone Rules 2021; coverage and accuracy depend on the camera, overlap and the PPK option.

Uddan is concept hardware in development and is not offered for sale. Export may be subject to Indian SCOMET controls.

Design and materials.

Matte charcoal composite fuselage, wing and tail skins with a fine moulded grain, carbon booms and propellers, anodised aluminium motor mounts and clamp caps. Burnt-orange nose inset and service locks, a green battery release and a green status lens.
